About Sounds of Science : the project.
We are a diverse group of individuals, including musicians and scientists (and some people who are both, and more). We have recorded a collection of sounds related to biological research and used them as the basis for musical compositions. We aim to bring research science to the public, through music.
Conducting scientific research is a highly challenging and extremely creative process. It is science, and as often as not, it is art. In order to underscore this duality, with emphasis on science as a creative process, we have taken to infusing music with the themes and ambiance of biology laboratories. Our recordings were carried out at Rockefeller University, at the Center for Genomic Regulation (Barcelona), and at the recording studios of the project producers in New York City.
This is Phase One of our project. The website you see before you, the music we have produced and made available, and the pictures we have provided, are all here to capture your imagination and bring you into our world. We hope you will keep watch on this website for news and updates as our project develops. Phase Two will see our entire catalogue of samples made freely available for download. We hope that musicians and music producers the world over will benefit and participate in the creation of music with a scientific bent by drawing from this collection of sounds for their compositions. We aim to allow scientists and engineers from diverse disciplines to upload new sounds. The outcome should be an enormous and diverse collection of science sounds for use by the artistic community at large.
If you like this music, share it! If you like this concept, please support us. If you want to know more about the background of this project, from where our samples originate, and how this music was produced, keep an eye on this site as we continue to add and elaborate the content.
